Entering Year 3 of this event, we have created our own nonprofit dedicated solely to improving the volleyball community in Hawaii: The Crabb Classic Foundation
Our mission will focus on three aspects:
• Put on exciting Pro-level events like the Crabb Classic and other clinics
• Raise funds to build more public sand volleyball courts across the state
• Provide scholarships & volleyball equipment to individuals, public schools and club teams in need; this will include Taylor and Trevor mentoring a small group of local youth that aspire to play volleyball collegiately
Last year, we donated $1,000 to the Outrigger Duke Foundation to assist some deserving local kids that love volleyball with scholarships.
Pro Events
Hawaii loves volleyball. It's part of our culture as we've produced loads of collegiate athletes, pros and Olympians. We have the best fans in the NCAA filling up Stan Sheriff Arena, yet there have only been 3 Pro Beach events held here since 2005.
Our goal is to keep making the Crabb Classic bigger and better each year so that fans get the chance to watch or play with and learn from top pros.
We plan to sponsor more local Pro clinics in the future as well and maybe get involved with grass tournaments too.
Eventually, we'd like to do events on Maui, Kauai and the Big Island.
Building Courts
Taylor and Trevor had the privilege of growing up playing at Outrigger Canoe Club (OCC) and the infamous "Baby Court" that has produced dozens of pros.
For non-OCC members, there are very few public sand courts on Oahu and throughout the state of Hawaii. The popular Queen's Beach courts are typically set up by an individual each morning -- there are hardly any permanent setups but we have lots of parks and beaches and are known for great weather.
Tourists have basically nowhere to go to hop into a pickup game, which a lot of people would love doing if they had access to public sand courts at Kapiolani Park for example.
Our vision is to raise enough money to eventually build and maintain a sand court on every Hawaiian island.
Scholarships, Mentorships & Equipment
Local kids are so talented yet we know how costly it is to live in Hawaii and play club volleyball.
We want to help ease costs for some families by providing equipment (balls, nets, ankle braces, kneepads, shoes, etc.) and scholarships for school or traveling with club teams.
We will then handpick some kids with aspirations of playing volleyball collegiately to be mentored by Taylor and Trevor. This will give them access to train with and pick the brains of two of USA's top beach pros.
